Maxine "Mackie" Horowitz began her career with Positive Maturity, Inc. In 2006. As the Jefferson County Retired Senior Volunteer Coordinator, Mackie worked tirelessly to serve the aging population in Jefferson County. She provided them with meaningful volunteer opportunities, activities and always a warm loving hug. In 2010, she became the Director for Shepherd Center East, a Positive Maturity senior center. This was truly her calling. She created a lively and vibrant center where individuals could participate in many activities, learning experiences and create friendships. You would often hear Mackie use her gift of music to bring all the participants together for a sing along. Or hear her infectious laughter throughout the hallways as she listened to and shared stories with her friends. Mackie truly was passionate about Shepherd Center East and the people she served. She was their advocate, their teacher, inspiration and friend.
When Positive Maturity, Inc. created the Top 50 Over 50 in 2014, Mackie signed up for every committee and worked tirelessly educating the community about the event and finding nominations. Mackie's hard work and dedication has made the Top 50 Over 50 an Alabama favorite!
Mackie retired from Positive Maturity, Inc. in December 2016 and moved to Minnesota with her husband, Sherm, to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Mackie Horowitz was an incredible lady with a true servant's heart. She was the definition of what it means to be a Top 50 Over 50.
May her memory be eternal.
